The Strawhat Pirates where created by Monkey D. Luffy in chapter 2 of One Piece. The goal of the pirate group was and still is to find the treasure named "One Piece" hidden by infamous pirate "Gol D. Roger". The group is named the Strawhat Pirates because of a hat that "Red Hair" Shanks gave to Luffy, that he got from Gol D. Roger himself (this was shown in a flashback by one of Gol D.'s former crewmates). Luffy was inspired by Shanks to become a pirate and go on adventures. Along the way Luffy gained many comrades and crewmates. Including 2 of the 7 warlords, Hancock and Jinbe, the latter of whom joined his crew. The crew disbanded for 2 years as for all of the crewmates to get stronger, this is refered to as the "timeskip" by fans.
